My coworkers and I decided to try Minh Chau in Inglewood for lunch. I had heard some great things about it and was curious to check it out. We all ended up ordering the Satay Beef Noodle Soup ($7.75 for small; $8.75 for large; $9.95 for x-large). I had ordered the small and it was just the perfect size for me as I wanted a light lunch. The beef slices were tender and the noodles were perfectly cooked. However, the soup was not as spicy nor complex as I had hoped it to be. This version of Satay Beef Noodle Soup was quite a bit thinner and lighter than the versions that I’m typically used to. As to be expected, there are no two restaurants that make their satay beef noodle soup the same way but my personal preference is for a heartier and more complex broth like the one from Song Viet or Vietnamese Village Express.
The service at Minh Chau was prompt and efficient and our food arrived quickly. Interestingly, Minh Chau has quite an extensive menu. As I perused the menu, I even noticed they offer some specialty Vietnamese noodle soups that aren’t as easy to find in Calgary like Bun Rieu (Crabmeat & Tomato in Vermicelli Soup) and Bun Mang Vit (Bamboo Duck in Vermicelli Soup). So now I’m intrigued and I think a return visit is warranted to check out some of these specialty noodle soups.
