I’m going to try something new and attempt to post from my phone while away. Earlier this week, after a long day of shopping in the Atlanta area, I met up with my friend at Bonefish Grill, located right on campus of Emory University. Bonefish Grill is actually a seafood restaurant chain with locations in many states across the nation. My friend is taking a course at the university and this has been her regular hang out during happy hour and on Wednesdays. This is because Bonefish has a series of appetizers with their signature “Bang Bang” sauce, which is a creamy spicy sauce.
The happy hour specials, which run from Sundays to Thursdays, include items such as Bang Chicken, Bang Bang Tacos (tacos filled with Bang Bang Shrimp), and Fresh Ceviche as well as a few cocktails all on special for $5 each. As well, on Wednesdays, the signature Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer is on special for $5 all evening long.
We started off with an order of the Bang Bang Shrimp ($5 on Wednesdays; regular price $9.50). Since it was Wednesday, this order only cost us $5. My friend had been raving about this shrimp so I was really looking forward to try it. The Bang Bang Shrimp consisted of shrimp coated in a crispy batter and tossed in a creamy, spicy sauce on a bed of mixed greens. Indeed, the crispy shrimp was quite tasty but I wouldn’t go so far as to say it was “wow factor” good. I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to order it again and was actually quite impressed at the quality and quantity of one order relative to the price. This was definitely a great afternoon snack and I would go to a Bonefish location to have this item again if I happen to be in the area.
Next up was an order of the Bang Bang Chicken ($5). The Bang Bang Chicken consisted of tender chicken pieces with a crispy batter and tossed in the same creamy, spicy sauce. Comparatively, I preferred the shrimp over the chicken. The chicken pieces were really tender but I liked the crunchy texture of the shrimp more. Again, the chicken pieces were served on a bed of mixed greens.
For a beverage, I tried one of their Happy Hour cocktail specials, the Classic Sidecar & Mango Twist ($5), which contained amber brandy and mango syrup. It was tasty and refreshing though it was a touch on the sweeter side for me. It paired nicely with the shrimp and chicken.
Overall, I was pretty impressed with our experience at Bonefish Grill. I was actually surprised at how filling the two appetizers were. We were so full after the two appies that we didn’t even end up eating dinner that evening. If you do manage to make it to a Bonefish Grill location, the Bang Bang Shrimp is definitely an item you should try.
